SINUS Project: Paper Accepted for IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference 2014

Dienstag, 14. Januar 2014 13:46

SINUS projectThe communication challenges experienced in an aerial network are unique due to its 3D nature and high mobility of the devices. There is a need to investigate the implementation of existing wireless technologies and protocols to see if they fulfill the demands posed by aerial network applications. In a recent work, we focused on deployment of standard WLAN technology for different network setups. It was experienced that certain setups not only offer network range extension, but also much lower variance in throughput. It was also seen that the standard routing protocol for 802.11s mesh lacks vastly in its implementation when applied to multihop aerial networks. Thus, it was established that there is a need to evaluate alternative mesh routing protocols that cater for aerial communication network demands.

The paper, “Experimental Performance Analysis of Two-Hop Aerial 802.11 Networks”, by E. Yanmaz, S. Hayat, J. Scherer and C. Bettstetter, reporting this work, is accepted in IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference 2014.

Autogrammstunde für Recommender Systems auf International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Peking

Montag, 12. August 2013 16:04

IJCAI 2013 – Tutorial on Recommender Systems, August 4 2013, Bejing, China

Dienstag, 8. Januar 2013 15:08

held by: O.Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Gerhard Friedrich (Alpen Adria Universität Klagenfurt) and Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Dietmar Jannach (TU Dortmund)

The presentation will be based on the book „Recommender Systems – An Introduction“ that is co-authored by the tutorial presentaers and was published by Cambridge Universty Press in 2012. (Amazon.com, Cambridge University Press Online store).

Previous instances of the tutorial have been given at IJCAI 2011, ACM HT, 2011 and SAC 2012. Further information and resources can be found at http://recommenderbook.net/.

Background

Recommender systems help users navigating through large product assortments, making decisions in e-commerce scenarios and overcome information overload. Probably the most prominent example is the book recommendation service of Amazon.com. Their system takes the behavior, opinions and tastes of a large community of users into account and thus constitutes a social or collaborative recommendation approach. In contrast, content-based approaches rely on product features and textual item descriptions; knowledge-based algorithms, finally, generate item recommendations based on explicit knowledge models from the domain. Technically, recommender systems have their roots in different fields such as information retrieval, text classification, machine learning and decision support systems. The tutorial will offer an introduction to the various basic strategies and methods for building recommender systems and will discuss the different known approaches and how the effectiveness of such systems can be determined.

Content of the Tutorial

  • Collaborative recommendation
  • Content-based filtering
  • Hybrid approaches
  • Evaluating recommender systems
  • Current topics in recommender systems
    •
